It’s Marilyn Monroe – oh wait … It’s Jeannie!

17 Nov

Bonjour, mes amies!

This stunning pattern comes from Odile at Passion Poupees (where else?)

It is a recreation of the dress worn in the iconic photo of Marilyn Monroe above the subway vent, where her dress is blown up around her middle.

And I know that Jeannie is not blonde, but neither was Marilyn and her real name was Norma Jean!

This dress was a pure delight to crochet, and I used a yarn I’d used previously for another gorgeous pattern of Odile’s – Wendy Peter Pan 4 ply in shade 3000 (white with a strand of glitter through it).

I took a risk and used a size 3 mm crochet hook (as recommended by Odile) and it fitted fine width wise, but I did add a couple of rows to lengthen it to fit correctly for my tension.

I think that Odile’s inspiration came from the television show that is called ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in the UK. This is the original version of this show, which is known as ‘Dancing With the Stars’ in other countries. I love watching this show and marvel at the dreamy, stunning costumes. I would love to be able to sew like that! Working in the costume department of that show must be a dream job – but very hard work!!

Jeannie’s shoes were made from a tutorial at They are so cute!

Bonne journée, à bientôt!
